
Feather and creativity… Diyala celebrates the aesthetics of Arabic calligraphy in a unique art workshop
The Faculty of Basic Education at the University of Diyala – the Art Activities Unit of the Student Activities Division, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Division and the Media and Government Communications Division, organised a specialised art workshop on Arabic calligraphy and Islamic decoration.
The workshop was moderated by Assistant Professor Marwa Adnan Faraj and presented by Assistant Professor Imad Khudair Abbas, who teaches at the Faculty of Fine Arts. The workshop aimed to refine the artistic talents of students and teachers, enhance their aesthetic taste, and contribute to the preservation of this ancient artistic heritage as an integral part of cultural identity.
The workshop included a theoretical presentation on the history of Arabic calligraphy and its various schools, followed by a practical application during which the lecturer gave a detailed explanation of the most prominent classical calligraphy styles and Islamic decoration techniques. The workshop witnessed great interaction from the participants, due to its cultural and artistic value that contributes to the development of artistic talents and deepens the connection with heritage.
This art workshop is part of the college’s commitment to supporting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations, and is particularly relevant to the following goals: Goal 4: Quality education: by providing quality educational activities that enrich the practical and artistic aspects of students’ lives and develop their creative skills beyond the scope of traditional curricula. Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth: By honing manual and artistic skills that can open up new job prospects for students in the field of arts and design. Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities: By preserving cultural and artistic heritage and promoting awareness of its aesthetic and cultural value. Goal 17: Partnerships for the goals: The cooperation between the Faculties of Basic Education and Fine Arts and the various departments of the college is an example of effective partnership to achieve common cultural goals.
