Diyala University continues its environmental leadership and secures its place for the seventh year in the UI Green Metric World University Rankings for Sustainable Development 2025
Diyala University has maintained its international presence in the field of sustainability for the seventh consecutive year after entering the UI Green Metric 2025 ranking, which measures the performance of universities in the areas of environmental protection, clean energy and resource management. The university ranked 927th globally out of 1,547 with an achievement rate of 40% and 37th out of 87 universities in Iraq with a completion rate of 57.47%, continuing its upward trajectory, which in 2024 saw it ranked 735th globally out of 1,477 with a completion rate of 50.23% and 26th in Iraq out of 81 with a completion rate of 67.9%. In 2023, it ranked 839th globally out of 1183 with a completion rate of 29.07% and 38th in Iraq out of 74 with a completion rate of 48.64%.
This achievement is the result of the university’s efforts to apply the principles of e-governance, reduce paper use, rationalize water consumption, treatment and recycling in the agricultural and industrial sectors, expand the use of renewable energy and support research related to sustainable development. This achievement contributes to the achievement of several sustainable development goals, most notably Goal 6 on clean water and sanitation, Goal 7 on clean and renewable energy, and Goal 13 on climate action.
On this occasion, the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Tahsin Hussein Mubarak, praised the efforts of the teaching and administrative staff who contributed to achieving this result, stressing that the University’s continued presence in this ranking is clear evidence of its commitment to applying global sustainability standards and promoting a culture of environmental protection and resource rationalization.
For his part, the Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Amer Mohamed Ibrahim, emphasized that this achievement reflects the careful planning and follow-up of energy and environmental governance projects within the university’s structures, with the aim of strengthening its position locally, regionally and internationally.
