The Faculty of Basic Education, Department of Arabic Language, in cooperation with the Division of Continuing Education, organized a specialized scientific seminar entitled
(( The myth of the theory (death of the author) in structural criticism )).
With the participation of a number of teachers and students.
The seminar, in which Dr. Afraa Sami Abboud Al-Daoud Al-Daoud. Dr. Afraa Sami Abboud Al-Daoudi aimed to criticize the hypothesis (death of the author) put forward by Roland Barthes, refute it from a critical scientific perspective, highlight the centrality of the author in the creative process, the cultural context of the text, point out the shortcomings of reading the text in isolation from its owner in light of the structuralist approach, analyze the effects of this theory on modern Arab criticism, and hermeneutical practices, and put forward a different vision that rehabilitates the role of the author in shaping meaning and semantics.
The symposium included several discussions, the first of which aimed to discuss the theoretical premises of Roland Barthes’ idea of the death of the author.
The second axis included deconstructing the death of the author in the light of the creative context.
The third axis aimed to show the impact of this hypothesis on the methods of modern criticism
The symposium recommended reconsidering the death of the author as a philosophical proposition rather than a fixed scientific method. The symposium also emphasized the importance of balancing between the text and its author in the processes of interpretation and analysis, and openness to the integration of critical approaches instead of rigid separation between them. It also emphasized the need for researchers to read imported concepts consciously and relate them to the Arab cultural context.
