
Laboratories under the microscope… Scientific oversight enhances the safety of the research environment at Diyala University
As part of preventive measures and to enhance public safety standards, the Chemical, Biological and Radiological Safety and Security Committee at Diyala University conducted a field visit to the laboratories and storage facilities of the Faculty of Basic Education – Science Department.
The committee was received by the Dean of the Faculty, Assistant Professor Dr. Ayman Abdul Aoun, the Head of the Science Department, Dr. Nawar Thamer Mohammed, and the Head of the Chemical, Biological and Radiological Safety Unit at the Faculty, Assistant Professor Dr. Muthanna Saeed Ali.
The visit aimed to ensure the safety of the procedures followed in the laboratories and storage facilities, verify the chemical, biological and radiological security requirements, and review the technical and administrative services provided in this field to ensure a safe scientific environment that complies with the approved standards.
The committee chair expressed his appreciation for the level of commitment he observed at the college, emphasising that the procedures followed reflect a clear commitment to implementing safety and security instructions and applying the necessary controls in educational and research laboratories.
For his part, the dean of the college appreciated the visit, considering it an important step that reflects the university’s keenness to strengthen the safety system, raise the quality of the laboratory infrastructure, and ensure a safe educational environment for students and researchers, in addition to supporting the college in developing its preventive plans and updating its technical requirements.
This visit is in line with the third goal (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 4 (Quality Education), and Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) of the Sustainable Development Goals, as it promotes a safe learning environment, supports scientific infrastructure, and ensures the safety of staff and students in laboratories.
