The Central Sustainable Development Committee at the Faculty of Basic Education, accompanied by the heads of subcommittees and liaison members, participated in a specialised seminar on sustainable development goals held on Thursday, 27 November 2025, as part of the institutional cooperation adopted by the university to support development plans and enhance the quality of academic and administrative performance.
The seminar aimed to discuss all 17 sustainable development goals and review the mechanisms adopted in developing and updating their indicators in line with the reality and needs of society. The seminar was part of a series of activities organised by the university to promote the presence of sustainable development in academic and research work.
The event included specialised scientific lectures by a group of researchers and experts, namely: Assistant Professor Dr. Thaer Muneem Hamid, Director of the Entrepreneurial Projects Management Department in the Research and Development Division at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Assistant Professor Dr. Alaa Hassan Fahmi, Head of the Sustainable Development Unit at the University of Diyala. Teacher Nour Abdul Muttalib Jafar, authorised by the university to handle environmental and sustainable development issues.
The seminar witnessed active participation and interaction from members of the relevant committees, who emphasised the importance of such scientific meetings in enhancing the college’s readiness to follow up on sustainable development indicators and update plans in a way that supports the community, preserves the environment and strengthens institutional work. Reference was also made to the need to expand programmes to raise awareness of development and build effective academic partnerships to ensure the achievement of the university’s strategic objectives.
It is worth noting that this symposium contributes directly to promoting a number of sustainable development goals, most notably: Goal 4: Quality education, through supporting quality education based on knowledge and sustainable planning. Goal 17: Partnerships for the goals, through coordination between faculties, the ministry and specialised committees. Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities, by improving the reality of society and implementing effective development plans. Goal 13: Climate action, by focusing on the environment and sustainable development.
The faculty thus affirms its commitment to supporting the university’s vision of promoting a culture of sustainable development and making it an integral part of the academic system.
