
A Seminar about Semantic development in Arabic words
The Faculty of Basic Education at Diyala University organizes a specialized scientific seminar entitled (Semantic development in Arabic words from the old linguistic meaning to the modern meaning).
The Faculty of Basic Education, Department of Arabic Language, in cooperation with the Division of Continuing Education, organized a specialized scientific seminar entitled (Semantic development in Arabic words from the ancient linguistic meaning to the modern meaning). With the participation of a number of teachers and students.
The symposium, in which Prof. Dr. . Hammam Radi Aliwi aimed to introduce the term semantic development, as well as mentioning its importance, causes and manifestations in the Arabic language, and the seminar included a discussion of multiple axes, and the first axis aimed to introduce the first manifestation of the development, which is (specialization of the connotation) with some examples such as the word (Saturday) and others, and the second axis dealt with the second manifestation of the development of the connotation, which is (specialization of the connotation). The second axis addressed the second manifestation of semantic development, which is (the generalization of the connotation) with the mention of some linguistic evidence on this, such as the word (oil) and others, while the third axis aimed to show the third manifestation of semantic development, which is (the elevation of the connotation) as the word (glory) and others, while the last axis was about (the decline of the connotation from elevation to vulgarity) as the word (fraud).
The symposium recommended the need to pay attention to the issue of the linguistic development of the Arabic word, whether it is a single word or in a specific linguistic context
