Crime Without Walls
Crime Without Walls… An academic awareness campaign redefines the boundaries of privacy at Diyala University
The Faculty of Basic Education at Diyala University organised an extensive awareness campaign entitled “Violation of Privacy… A Crime Without Walls,” under the supervision of the Human Rights Subcommittee in the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, in cooperation with the Volunteer Work Unit/Student Activities Division, in coordination with the Media and Government Communications Division, and with the participation of a group of faculty members from the department.
The campaign’s executive committee consisted of: Prof. Abdulaziz Yassin as chair, and members: Dr. Nourus Najib Ahmed, Dr. Mustafa Sabah Saleh, Dr. Nour Abdul Karim Ahmed, Dr. Hana Hussein Kazem, Ms. Hala Ali Hilal, and Mr. Yasser Taha Yassin.
The campaign aimed to promote awareness of the culture of respect for individual privacy in the university environment, and to warn of the legal and ethical risks of violating privacy through digital means or everyday behaviours, as this is considered a transnational crime that can have serious psychological and social consequences.
The campaign included the distribution of awareness posters to students and faculty members, containing guidelines on personal rights, methods of protecting information, and ways to respond to privacy violations or cyber blackmail, in addition to providing guidance on building a safe university environment that respects human principles.
For his part, the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Ayman Abdul Aoun, praised this meaningful initiative, emphasising its importance in spreading a culture of respect for rights, promoting civilised behaviour among students, and supporting institutional efforts aimed at protecting the university community from digital and behavioural abuses.
At the conclusion of the event, the committee emphasised that these activities are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, which calls for the promotion of safe societies based on justice and respect for rights, and the provision of awareness-raising education that contributes to building a generation that is conscious of its rights and responsibilities.
