
Diyala launches first comprehensive campaign for seasonal flu prevention
The Health Awareness Committee in the History Department of the Faculty of Basic Education has begun its activities for the 2025-2026 academic year, launching an awareness program entitled “Awareness of the Risks of Seasonal Influenza,” which aims to educate students in the department about ways to prevent these common diseases and their risks.
The activity was presented by Prof. Dr. Qasim Ismail Mahdi, Assistant Prof. Dr. Samah Nouri Fadel, and Assistant Teacher Heba Ahmed Hadi.
The activity included an awareness lecture for students that covered several important topics, most notably: a clear definition of the concept of seasonal influenza and its symptoms. Identifying the groups most vulnerable to infection and possible complications of the disease. Reviewing methods of prevention and treatment during infection. Explaining the role of health awareness and the community in reducing the spread of seasonal diseases.
The committee also presented a set of practical recommendations to enhance awareness and prevention, including: promoting national vaccination campaigns before the start of the flu season; spreading health culture within educational and health institutions; encouraging the media to produce educational programs about influenza; Training educational and health personnel on field awareness methods.
To complement this effort, the committee prepared an explanatory poster containing preventive guidelines for seasonal influenza to raise awareness among students and the academic community.
This activity is part of the college’s efforts to promote public health and community prevention, and is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), by promoting health awareness and prevention of seasonal diseases among students and the university community.
