Professor Dr. Muhannad Muhammad Abdul Sattar, who teaches in the Department of Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance at the Faculty of Basic Education at the University of Diyala, published with Professor Dr. Fouad Muhammad Freih from Anbar University and Dr. Carol S. North from the University of Texas, USA, their research titled “Reactive Depression Following Psychological Distress among Iraqi Students”. At a time when the world is now witnessing many crises and adversities with great impact that pose serious threats to physical and mental health. The research provides a new applied and diagnostic vision to study the concept of reactive depression in university students and aims to determine the prevalence of one type of depressive disorder, Reactive Depression (RD), and its relationship with demographic and psychological variables.
Evidence of RD was found in 18.2% of students, with female students having significantly higher levels of RD. Female students had significantly higher levels of reactive depression than males (females = 205, mean = 85.00, standard deviation = 11.30; males = 157, mean = 76.46, standard deviation = 11.51).
