Sport as a line of defence against diabetes at Diyala University
The Faculty of Basic Education at Diyala University – Student Activities Division, Cultural Unit, in collaboration with the Public Health Department – Al-Mustafa Health Centre, and in coordination with the Media and Government Communications Division and the Continuing Education Division, held an awareness and prevention seminar entitled:
‘Sports and its role in preventing diabetes,’ with the participation of a number of teachers and students.
The seminar, presented by Dr. Zainab Ahmed Salman and Assistant Teacher Ghufran Ibrahim Nima, aimed to educate students about the importance of regular exercise as an effective means of preventing diabetes and promoting a healthy lifestyle that reduces the health risks associated with this disease.
The seminar included a discussion of several topics. The first topic provided an introduction to diabetes, its causes, and lifestyle-related risk factors. The second topic discussed the role of exercise in improving blood sugar levels and maintaining a healthy weight. The third topic emphasised the importance of a balanced diet alongside physical activity in preventing the disease. The fourth topic reviewed ways to integrate daily exercise into students’ school schedules.
The seminar also included a tour of the college corridors and the distribution of awareness posters to students to reinforce prevention messages in a practical and attractive way.
The Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Ayman Abdul Aoun, praised this activity during his attendance at the symposium, emphasising that it reflects the College’s keenness to develop health awareness among students and encourage them to adopt a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
This seminar is in line with the third Sustainable Development Goal (Good Health and Well-being) by promoting health education and prevention of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, and motivating individuals to adopt a healthy lifestyle that supports the long-term well-being of society.
