Diyala University delves into artificial intelligence and dismantles the roots of religious extremism
In a new international scientific achievement, Dr. Wafa Masoud Aziz, a lecturer in the Arabic Language Department at the Faculty of Basic Education at Diyala University, participated in the first international scientific conference, held under the comprehensive and important title: ‘The Knowledge Transformation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Contemporary Visions for Building Safe, Sustainable and High-Quality Education.’
The conference (held virtually via a closed electronic circuit on 29 and 30 November 2025) was organised in collaboration with Tasnim International Journal for Humanities, Social Sciences and Law (Beirut/Lebanon), De Bono Journal of Humanities, Humanitarian and Legal Studies (Iraq), and other supporting institutions.
Dr. Wafa participated with her scientific research entitled ‘The Term Extremism in Previous Religions: From Roots to Concept,’ and received the Scientific Creativity Medal from the organisers for her outstanding research efforts.
In her research, the researcher addressed the meaning of extremism in language and terminology, and the search for the roots of this term in previous religions, given its importance in determining the correct religious direction, as some violators of religion deviate from its rulings when they find that these commands contradict their worldly interests. She emphasised that the general meaning of the term is essentially the same, despite differences in the finer details.
