Teaching from the field, not from the classroom…
An elite academic group from Diyala University activates students’ physical education skills for a lively and interactive practical lesson
As part of strengthening the practical and applied aspects of educational preparation programs, a group of elite teachers from the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the College of Basic Education at the University of Diyala, in cooperation with the Student Activities Division and in coordination with the Media and Government Communications Division at the college, organized a practical lesson for fourth-year students, in coordination with the administration of the Um Al-Banin School and its physical education department.
This activity is part of the department’s academic plan to develop students’ practical teaching skills, giving them the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge they have acquired in a real school environment, thereby boosting their self-confidence and refining their educational experience.
Those in charge of the activity emphasized that practical lessons are an effective educational tool that helps student teachers test their teaching skills and opens up new horizons for them to discover modern methods of conveying educational concepts. They also contribute to strengthening the relationship between students and educational supervisors and creating an interactive educational environment rich in positive ideas.
The lesson included the direct application of some motor and athletic skills by the school’s female students, along with a series of small games and competitive activities that helped develop a spirit of interaction, spread a fun atmosphere, and boost self-confidence through group participation.
At the end of the activity, the teachers expressed their thanks and appreciation to the administration of Um Al-Banin School, especially the school principal and the physical education teacher, for their fruitful cooperation and for providing the opportunity to implement this joint practical lesson, emphasizing the importance of continuing such initiatives that link higher education with the educational reality in schools.
This activity is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, in particular: Goal 4: Quality Education – by supporting interactive education and improving student educational outcomes. Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being – by promoting physical activity and mental health among students. Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals – as this collaboration represents an effective model of partnership between higher education institutions and community schools.
