Under the title ‘Safe Space
Teaching from the Ground Up,’ Diyala participates in an international celebration and calls for appreciation of the role of men
Professor Dr. Khawla Hamad Al-Zaydi, a lecturer in the Arabic Language Department at the Faculty of Basic Education at the University of Diyala, participated in the international celebration organised by the Ared Scientific International Platform for Arabic Speakers, under the auspices of Ared International University for Higher Studies, on the occasion of ‘International Men’s Day’ on 10 December 2025.
The celebration was held under the slogan: ‘Men: Support, Responsibility and Giving,’ in celebration and appreciation of their significant role in all aspects of life.
Dr. Al-Zaydi’s presentation was entitled ‘Safe Space.’ In it, she reviewed the psychological and social dimensions of the pressures faced by men in contemporary society and the importance of providing a supportive environment (safe space) that enables them to express their challenges without stigma. The presentation aimed to raise awareness of men’s mental health and emphasise the need for society to work together to ease the burdens placed on them as ‘supporters, providers and givers’.
The online presentation included a critical analysis of traditional concepts of masculinity that may prevent men from seeking support, and provided practical recommendations to promote family and community understanding in order to support the active role of men.
The Dean of the Faculty, Assistant Professor Dr. Ayman Abdul Aoun, praised this qualitative participation, emphasising that ‘the Faculty always encourages participation that addresses important social and humanitarian issues and supports the role of teachers in actively contributing to international academic dialogues that promote comprehensive community awareness.’
