The President of Diyala University attends the opening ceremony of Diyala Sports Stadium and affirms: Sports are a cultural identity and a partnership in human development
Amidst a large official and public turnout, the President of Diyala University, Prof. Dr. Tahseen Hussein Mubarak, attended the opening ceremony of Diyala Sports Stadium on Saturday evening, October 25, 2025, after its renovation and reconstruction, in response to an official invitation from the club’s administrative body. under the patronage of the Governor of Diyala, Mr. Adnan Al-Shimmari, and the President of the Diyala Sports Club, Mr. Ahmed Al-Mousawi, and in the presence of the President of the Iraqi Football Association, Mr. Adnan Darjal, and a number of officials in the province and prominent academic, social, and sports figures.
In a press statement on the sidelines of the ceremony, the university president expressed his pride in this great sporting achievement, which is considered a cultural showcase for the province of Diyala and a symbol of the integration of institutional and community efforts. He emphasized that the opening of this sports complex represents a renewed message of hope that Diyala is capable of advancement and development whenever there is sincere will and cooperation between its institutions.
He added that Diyala University views sports as an educational field that contributes to building a balanced personality and a platform for promoting a spirit of belonging and teamwork. He praised the great efforts made by the club’s administrative body, in coordination with the local government, to revive this stadium after years of neglect, and commended the recent successes achieved by Diyala Sports Club, especially the football team’s promotion to the Premier League, which reflects the high potential of the province’s youth and their determination to excel and give their best.
In conclusion, His Excellency affirmed that Diyala University will continue to build bridges of cooperation with all community institutions, including sports clubs, based on its belief in its developmental role in supporting initiatives that contribute to human and community development.
It is worth noting that Diyala University’s participation in this event is in line with the third Sustainable Development Goal (Good Health and Well-being), which calls for promoting healthy lifestyles and encouraging physical activity and sports, as well as contributing to the achievement of the seventeenth goal (Partnerships for the Goals) through effective cooperation with provincial institutions in the areas of development and community.
