Within the framework of joint scientific cooperation and the directives of the College of Basic Education at Diyala University to engage with governmental educational institutions in the province and strengthen the partnership between higher education and public education, the College of Basic Education – Department of Arabic Language, in cooperation with the Diyala Education Directorate, organized a specialized training course entitled “Modern Trends in Teaching – Teaching Strategies.” The two-day course was attended by a number of postgraduate students and recent graduates.
The training course, presented by Professor Dr. Hamed Abdul Ibrahim, Head of the Department of Arabic Language, and Assistant Lecturer Ghanem Mohammed Abdul Hassan from the Diyala Education Directorate, aimed to develop the participants’ teaching skills, enhance their professional competence, and introduce them to the latest educational trends adopted in modern teaching methods, in line with the requirements of the contemporary educational environment.
The first day of the course included discussions on several topics, including the concept of modern trends in teaching, the transition from traditional to active learning, an explanation of the most important contemporary teaching strategies and mechanisms for their application in the classroom, as well as the teacher’s role in building an interactive learning environment based on critical thinking and self-directed learning. This course is part of the college’s efforts to bridge the gap between theory and practice, and to enhance the integration of graduate studies outcomes with the needs of the educational field. This contributes to preparing qualified educators capable of keeping pace with modern developments in the educational process.
The course featured scholarly presentations and interactive discussions among the participants, reflecting their level of interest and awareness of the importance of developing teaching performance. Participants also presented comprehensive lesson plans, each according to their specialization, which were then discussed and scientifically evaluated to enhance their practical skills.
For his part, the Dean of the College of Basic Education, Assistant Professor Dr. Ayman Abdul Aoun, commended the efforts of the Arabic Language Department and its constructive cooperation with the Diyala Education Directorate. He emphasized the college’s commitment to supporting scientific and training activities that serve the educational community, develop the capabilities of teaching staff, and strengthen communication with governmental institutions in the province.
This course comes within the framework of the College of Basic Education’s commitment to applying quality standards in higher education, in line with the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goal Four (Quality Education), by ensuring inclusive quality education, building the capacities of educational staff, and promoting lifelong learning opportunities.
