Faculty of Basic Education hosts visiting professor Richard Wilding in a joint scientific lecture with the British Academy in the United Kingdom (London)
Under the patronage and honor of the Dean of the Faculty of Basic Education, Assistant Professor Dr. Ayman Abdul Awn Nazzal, the Faculty of Basic Education at Diyala University organized a joint scientific lecture in cooperation with the British Academy in London, delivered by visiting professor Richard Wilding, with the participation of Dr. Saif Tawfiq Ibrahim, in the presence of a number of teachers, researchers and postgraduate students.
The lecture was titled: “The Umm al-Qurun rest house and lighthouse on the pilgrimage route from Kufa to Mecca – Darb Zubaydah: History, Updates, and Opportunities.” The lecture addressed the importance of the ancient pilgrimage route and the historical and archaeological value it holds, in addition to the excavation and archaeological survey work within the international cooperation projects in the field of preserving Iraqi heritage.
The visiting professor reviewed the importance of this road in the Islamic heritage, especially since it is the route that Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) took when he came to Iraq, which gives it great religious and historical symbolism. The lecture also touched on the reality of the “Umm al-Qurun” lighthouse, which is threatened with extinction, and its prominent role as one of the stations of this road.
The lecture witnessed a wide interaction by the attendees, and the task of interpretation was entrusted to Prof. Dr. Amthal Al-Jubouri, the visiting professor expressed his serious desire to open the horizons of academic and scientific cooperation between Diyala University and the British Academy, appreciating the warm reception and the depth of scientific discussions in the college.
