With innovative skills
The English Department at Diyala University transforms theory into practice in educational media activities
The English Department at the Faculty of Basic Education at Diyala University, in coordination with the Media and Government Communication Division, organised a special student activity focused on educational media, as part of the requirements for the practical education course (viewing). This activity was the culmination of numerous practical workshops during which students handmade educational tools, embodying the principle of linking theory with practical application.
The main objective of the activity was to equip students with the skills to design and produce educational tools themselves, and to qualify them to be competent teachers capable of attracting the attention of learners and improving their learning outcomes.
The activity was supervised by a specialised teaching team that included Professor Samia Mohamed Razouki, Assistant Teacher Ahmed Riad Adib, and Assistant Teacher Fatima Jamal Saadallah.
The activity began with an informative introductory lecture presented by two outstanding students, Murtaza Ahmed Saleh (morning study) and Huda Fawzi Abdel (evening study). The lecture covered an introduction to teaching aids, their vital importance in the teaching process for simplifying linguistic concepts, and the conditions for their effective use in the classroom.
The activity was attended by the Dean of the Faculty, Assistant Professor Dr. Ayman Abdul Aoun, and a number of teaching staff and students from the department. Afterwards, the Dean accompanied the Head of the Department and those in charge of the activity on an enjoyable tour to view the innovative teaching models that the students had designed and implemented, which reflected their high level of skills and ability to employ ideas creatively to serve the educational material.
For his part, the Dean of the College praised the efforts made, stressing that ‘these practical activities are the essence of our academic mission, and we are proud of the level of creativity shown by our students in transforming theoretical knowledge into concrete educational tools that serve the educational process.’
In a related context, the head of the English Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Haifa Abdulkhaliq Ahmed, expressed her deep gratitude and appreciation to the participating students and supervising professors for their outstanding efforts, wishing them further creativity and excellence in their academic careers. She emphasised that the department will continue to support everything that enhances the practical skills of students.
This activity was organised in line with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations, and is particularly relevant to: Goal 4: Quality Education: The activity focuses directly on improving the quality of education by developing the skills of future teachers in the use of innovative and effective teaching methods, ensuring inclusive and equitable education for all. Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure: By encouraging student innovation in the design of handmade teaching aids and the creative use of available technology and tools to create a better learning environment.
