The President of Diyala University discusses prospects for academic cooperation with Western Michigan University
As part of Diyala University’s efforts to expand its international relations and strengthen its academic presence on the global stage, the University President, Prof. Tahseen Hussein Mubarak, met with a delegation of foreign relations officials from Western Michigan University to discuss ways of scientific and academic cooperation between the two universities during a virtual meeting held yesterday evening, Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
During the meeting, opportunities for strengthening academic relations in the fields of scientific and research exchange, training and development programs, and the possibility of establishing joint scientific projects that serve both parties and contribute to the advancement of higher education and scientific research at the University of Diyala were reviewed.
During the meeting, the university president emphasized Diyala University’s keenness to open up prospects for international cooperation with reputable universities around the world, given the positive impact this would have on developing the research and academic capabilities of its professors and students and enhancing the university’s reputation in international scientific forums. He proposed a set of constructive ideas for launching future cooperation programs that Diyala University hopes to achieve through partnership with the prestigious Western Michigan University.
The meeting was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Taha Mohammed Hassan, the Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Science for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Laith Abdul Latif, and the Director of the Department of Missions and Cultural Relations, Assistant Prof. Haider Najm Abboud, who expressed their readiness to support all initiatives that contribute to the development of international cooperation programs and academic competencies in order to achieve the goals of our beloved university.
At the end of the meeting, both sides expressed their aspiration to activate future agreements between the two universities in a way that serves the process of higher education and scientific research in both countries.
This activity achieved one of the sustainable development goals, namely Goal 4, which calls for quality education, as well as Goal 17, which calls for partnerships to achieve the goals.
