
Cyber extortion in the age of digital communication…
An awareness seminar at Diyala University warns and reveals ways to prevent it
The Faculty of Basic Education at the University of Diyala – Women’s Affairs Unit, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the Guidance Centre, and in coordination with the Media and Government Communication and Continuing Education Divisions, organised an awareness seminar on cyber blackmail and ways to prevent it, with the participation of a number of teachers and students.
The seminar, which was presented by Prof. Amal Sabih Salman, M.M. Ork Adnan Yaqoub, aimed to highlight the dangers of cyber blackmail as one of the growing digital crimes, raise awareness among the university community about protection and prevention mechanisms, and promote a culture of safe and responsible use of social media.
The seminar included a discussion of several topics, most notably: the concept of cyber blackmail and its modern types and forms. What methods do blackmailers use to lure victims, especially young people? The psychological, social and legal consequences of this crime. Practical methods of prevention and the correct mechanisms for dealing with blackmail, emphasising the importance of reporting it and not giving in to threats.
