A boxing training course in the language of science hones students’ skills and builds discipline at Diyala University
The Faculty of Basic Education at Diyala University – Department of Physical Education and Sports Science, in cooperation with the Media and Government Communication and Continuing Education departments, a training course on martial arts for students (boxing), with the participation of a number of students from the department, as part of the faculty’s efforts to enhance the skills, physical and psychological aspects of students, and link theoretical knowledge with practical application.
The training course, supervised by Prof. Ahmed Shaker Mahmoud and Dr. Dr. Amjad Mohamed Wahab, aimed to introduce students to the concept of martial arts, teach them the basic skills of boxing, develop their physical attributes, and promote the values of discipline, commitment, and self-confidence, in line with the requirements for preparing students specialising in sports science.
The course included several integrated training programmes. The first programme dealt with the theoretical framework of boxing, while the second programme highlighted the importance of boxing and its role in building athletic character. The third programme reviewed the health and physical benefits of boxing, and the fourth programme focused on the physical requirements necessary to practice it. The fifth programme addressed the basic skills of boxing, and the course concluded with practical field applications that reflected the students’ interaction and understanding of the training content.
