Diyala University celebrates the teachers of tomorrow First-year students crown the champions of English
Under the slogan “Today’s student… is tomorrow’s teacher), in an academic event that combined a warm welcome with the joy of achievement, the Faculty of Basic Education at Diyala University – English Department, in cooperation with the Media and Government Communication Division and in coordination with the Continuing Education Division, organised a grand celebration to welcome first-year students for the academic year 2025 –2026 academic year and to honour the top students in the department for all stages (morning and evening), in the presence of a large gathering of the families of the top students and teaching staff.
The ceremony, which was skilfully conducted by student Ban Saadi Jassim, began with a beautiful recitation from the Holy Quran by reader Safa al-Din Muhammad, followed by a moment of silence in honour of Iraq’s martyrs and a reading of Surah al-Fatihah. In an unusual artistic touch, student Ahmed Mustafa played the Iraqi national anthem on the guitar, sending a message of student creativity from the very beginning.
In his speech, the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Ayman Abdul Aoun, emphasised that the college is the primary incubator for building the character of the teacher-leader. For her part, the head of the department, Assistant Professor Dr. Nagham Jafar Majid, welcomed the new students, offering a special gesture of gratitude to the former head of the department, Assistant Professor Dr. Haifa Abdul Khaliq, in appreciation of her contributions over the past five years.
In a related context, the former head of the department, Assistant Professor Dr. Haifa Abdulkhaliq Ahmed, gave a moving speech in which she expressed her pride in the period she spent as head of the department, praising the combined efforts of the teaching staff and students that led to the previous successes. She also offered her parental advice.
