
Not just strength… Diyala organises scientific seminar on optimising athletic performance through understanding the secrets of muscles
The Faculty of Basic Education at the University of Diyala – Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Division and the Media and Government Communications Division, organised a specialised scientific seminar entitled: ‘Muscles and their importance for athletes’. A number of teachers and students interested in the physiological and training aspects of sports actively participated in the seminar.
The seminar, which was presented by Dr. Amjad Mohammed Wahab and Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shaker Mahmoud, aimed to achieve several scientific and practical objectives: These included introducing participants to the precise physiological structure of skeletal, smooth, and cardiac muscles. Explaining the extreme importance of muscles in producing effective athletic movement in athletes. It also helped participants understand the mechanisms of muscle fatigue and stress and ways to reduce them scientifically. In addition, it introduced the best modern methods for maintaining muscle health in athletes.
The seminar included a discussion of several key topics linking theory and practice: The first topic reviewed the physiological structure of all voluntary and involuntary muscles. The second topic discussed the types of muscle fibres (fast and slow) and their different roles in relation to athletes and their specialisations. The third topic emphasised the importance of muscles in optimal athletic performance. The fourth topic highlighted muscle fatigue and ways to reduce and prevent it.
